Farmers’ Market checks are now available through the WIC clinic! The checks allow eligible families to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs at local farmers’ markets in Iowa. Each family member older than 9 months who were enrolled in the WIC program since May 31, 2019 can receive a packet of paper checks worth $27. These checks can be used at any authorized WIC farmers’ market in Iowa. For more information, call WIC at 319-356-6042 or stop in during clinic hours at our Iowa City office or at our WIC satellite clinics in Cedar, Iowa or Washington Counties (click here for the WIC Clinic calendar).
Look for the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program sign posted by the market vendors to see if you can use your Farmers’ Market checks there. You can also ask the vendor if they take Farmers’ Market checks.
Farmers’ Market checks can be used at any authorized market in Iowa. To find an authorized market nearest you, click here and search by county or city in Iowa. A list of nearby markets can be found below.
Families who also receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can double their use of SNAP benefits at the Iowa City Farmers’ Market for purchase of fresh vegetables and fruits up to an additional $10 per visit.
