Iowa’s Democratic representatives in Congress are calling for the Senate to convene and vote on background checks following the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
U.S. Reps. Cindy Axne, Abby Finkenauer and Dave Loebsack issued statements urging the Senate to reconvene to vote on bipartisan gun legislation.
All three voted in favor of H.R. 8, or the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, in February. The bill would require universal background checks on gun transfers with a few exceptions for situations like gift-giving or providing a gun to someone for immediate self-defense.
