Iowa City Residents write to City Council over recycling issues

Iowa City has required its landlords to offer recycling to their tenants since 2016, yet some landlords haven’t been doing a good job. One senior at the University of Iowa got fed up and decided to write to city council members about the issue. Apparently landlords have found ways around offering recycling to their tenants by either removing the containers after inspectors come by, or moving them from location to location for inspections. It was also stated that cardboard has not been able to go to the city landfill since the beginning of 2018. This puts tenants in a predicament when they don’t have the means to take the cardboard to a far away recycling container, but aren’t allowed to throw it in the landfill either.
