Researchers explored whether accumulated stress in a community could have significant effects on how well a community can respond to shocks like environmental crises, community violence or public health crises. Stress among communities such as high unemployment, violence or segregation, might explain why two similar places respond to the same event in different ways. The team developed a framework for community allostatic load which they explored to see if two similar communities may respond differently.
This framework and study can help practitioners and other leaders think differently about community stressors and ways to decrease this stress.
