Iowa Uses Less Restrictive Standards than the EPA for Blue-Green Aglae Toxins

A child that was playing in a lake that contained blue-green algae toxin was hospitalized due to being poisoned. This could have been avoided, however, t was found that this occurred because the state of Iowa follows the World Health Organization’s swim advisory guidelines as opposed to the more strict, federal guidelines.
